Each order goes out in a 30 × 25 × 10 cm box and weighs 0.6 kg. The courier does not bill 0.6 kg. It bills 1.5 kg, and to a customer in another state that parcel costs over ₹200 before GST.</p>\n<p>That gap is volumetric weight, and it is the most common reason small sellers find their shipping line deep in the red at the end of the month. The fix is arithmetic you can do on a calculator in two minutes.</p>\n\n<section data-blog-block=\"takeaways\"><h3>Key takeaways</h3><ul>\n<li>Couriers bill the higher of the actual weight and the volumetric weight (L × B × H in cm ÷ 5,000 for most Indian couriers).</li>\n<li>Rates go up in 0.5 kg slabs, so 0.51 kg costs the same as 1 kg.</li>\n<li>Zone matters as much as weight: on Shiprocket's Lite plan, the same 0.5 kg parcel costs ₹51 within a city and ₹103 to the North East via Delhivery Surface.</li>\n<li>COD adds a fee of a fixed amount or a percentage, whichever is higher, and a returned parcel costs you freight in both directions.</li>\n<li>A free-shipping threshold pays for itself only if the extra item it nudges carries more margin than the shipping you absorb.</li>\n</ul></section>\n\n<h2>Billed weight is the higher of two numbers</h2>\n<p>Every parcel has two weights:</p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dead weight:</strong> what the packed parcel weighs on a scale, box and filler included.</li>\n<li><strong>Volumetric weight:</strong> how much space it takes in a van. Shiprocket's <a href=\"https://www.shiprocket.in/volumetric-weight-calculator/\">volumetric weight calculator</a> uses length × width × height in centimetres divided by 5,000, and says the courier charges on whichever is higher.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Shiprocket's <a href=\"https://support.shiprocket.in/support/solutions/articles/43000664201-explain-the-different-types-of-weight-terminology-used-in-the-platform-\">weight terminology page</a> calls this the \"applied weight\", notes that 5,000 is the factor for most of its courier partners (it can vary), and sets 0.5 kg as the minimum. Delhivery's <a href=\"https://help.delhivery.com/docs/calculating-volumetric-weight\">help page</a> uses the same ÷ 5,000 for both surface and express.</p>\n<p>Delhivery adds two details worth knowing if you ship with it directly. Parcels packed in flyers (plastic mailers) are charged only on dead weight up to 1 kg. And at manifest it uses dead weight as-is for parcels under 1 kg, switching to the higher of the two above that. Aggregators and couriers each have their own rules, so check the one in your account rather than assuming.</p>\n\n<h3>Slabs: why 0.6 kg costs the same as 1 kg</h3>\n<p>Indian rate cards price the first 0.5 kg, then each additional 0.5 kg. Shiprocket's public <a href=\"https://www.shiprocket.in/pricing/rate-card/\">rate card</a> lists exactly that for its standard courier options: a base rate and an \"Additional 0.5Kg\" rate. Your billed weight is rounded up to the next slab, so a 0.6 kg parcel pays for two.</p>\n\n<h3>Worked example: the cushion-cover box</h3>\n<table>\n<thead><tr><th>Step</th><th>Calculation</th><th>Result</th></tr></thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr><td>Dead weight</td><td>Scale reading</td><td>0.6 kg</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Volumetric weight</td><td>30 × 25 × 10 = 7,500 ÷ 5,000</td><td>1.5 kg</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Billed weight</td><td>Higher of the two</td><td>1.5 kg</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Slabs</td><td>1.5 ÷ 0.5</td><td>3 slabs (first + 2 additional)</td></tr>\n</tbody></table>\n<p>You pay for two and a half times the weight you are actually sending. Hold that thought; it comes back when we change the box.</p>\n\n<h2>Zones: where the parcel goes</h2>\n<p>Couriers group PIN-code pairs into zones, and both forward and return freight depend on the zone. Shiprocket's <a href=\"https://support.shiprocket.in/support/solutions/articles/43000664184-explaining-shipping-zones-how-shipment-zones-affect-order-fulfillment-and-rates-\">zone explainer</a> (last updated December 2022, still the naming its rate card uses) defines five:</p>\n<table>\n<thead><tr><th>Zone</th><th>Shiprocket's definition</th></tr></thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr><td>A: Within city</td><td>Pickup and delivery PIN codes in the same city</td></tr>\n<tr><td>B: Within state/region</td><td>Both PIN codes in the same state or region</td></tr>\n<tr><td>C: Metro to metro</td><td>Both PIN codes in metro cities</td></tr>\n<tr><td>D: Rest of India</td><td>Anywhere else in India, excluding the North East and J&amp;K</td></tr>\n<tr><td>E: Special</td><td>One or both ends in the North East states, J&amp;K, Kerala or Himachal Pradesh</td></tr>\n</tbody></table>\n<p>For a seller in Jaipur, a buyer in Jaipur is Zone A, Udaipur is Zone B, Pune is Zone D and Guwahati is Zone E. Most small stores ship the majority of orders in B, C and D.</p>\n\n<h2>What it actually costs</h2>\n<p>Shiprocket publishes its rate card per plan. These are the figures for Delhivery Surface on the free Lite plan, read from Shiprocket's rate card on 19 October 2026. Shiprocket's support pages quote plan rates exclusive of GST, so add GST to every number below. Paid plans (₹199, ₹499 and ₹799 a month on Shiprocket's <a href=\"https://www.shiprocket.in/pricing/\">pricing page</a>) cost less per parcel.</p>\n<table>\n<thead><tr><th>Delhivery Surface, Lite plan</th><th>Zone A</th><th>Zone B</th><th>Zone C</th><th>Zone D</th><th>Zone E</th></tr></thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr><td>First 0.5 kg</td><td>₹51</td><td>₹57</td><td>₹66</td><td>₹71</td><td>₹103</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Each additional 0.5 kg</td><td>₹48</td><td>₹56</td><td>₹63</td><td>₹66</td><td>₹97</td></tr>\n<tr><td>RTO, first 0.5 kg</td><td>₹51</td><td>₹57</td><td>₹66</td><td>₹71</td><td>₹103</td></tr>\n<tr><td>COD fee</td><td>₹52 or 3.3% of order value, whichever is higher</td></tr>\n</tbody></table>\n<p>Other couriers on the same card sit close by. Xpressbees Surface, for instance, starts at ₹45 in Zone A and ₹97 in Zone E. Rates change often, so treat these as a snapshot and recheck before you set prices.</p>\n\n<h3>Same product, smaller box</h3>\n<p>Now repack the 0.6 kg cushion cover. Here is what the three-slab box costs against a 25 × 20 × 8 cm box (4,000 ÷ 5,000 = 0.8 kg volumetric, billed as 1 kg) and against a product light enough to stay inside one slab in a mailer.</p>\n<table>\n<thead><tr><th>Packing</th><th>Billed weight</th><th>Zone A</th><th>Zone B</th><th>Zone C</th><th>Zone D</th><th>Zone E</th></tr></thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr><td>30 × 25 × 10 cm box, 0.6 kg</td><td>1.5 kg</td><td>₹147</td><td>₹169</td><td>₹192</td><td>₹203</td><td>₹297</td></tr>\n<tr><td>25 × 20 × 8 cm box, 0.6 kg</td><td>1 kg</td><td>₹99</td><td>₹113</td><td>₹129</td><td>₹137</td><td>₹200</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Saving per order</td><td></td><td>₹48</td><td>₹56</td><td>₹63</td><td>₹66</td><td>₹97</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Mailer, product under 0.5 kg</td><td>0.5 kg</td><td>₹51</td><td>₹57</td><td>₹66</td><td>₹71</td><td>₹103</td></tr>\n</tbody></table>\n<p>Delhivery Surface, Shiprocket Lite plan, before GST. At 300 orders a month mostly in Zones B to D, the smaller box alone is worth roughly ₹17,000 to ₹20,000 a month. No marketing change you make this week will do that.</p>\n\n<figure><img src=\"https://cdn.selzix.com/da485deb-1584-49a4-9792-3cb586a3e7d7/8150467e-7c43-4a58-a490-580e553a6329.jpg\" alt=\"Large plastic-wrapped bundles stacked high on a cycle cart in an Indian market lane\"><figcaption>Big and light is the expensive combination: couriers charge for the space a parcel takes. Photo: Anurag Jamwal / Unsplash (Unsplash License)</figcaption></figure>\n\n<h2>COD fees and RTO: the costs that hide</h2>\n<p>Shiprocket's <a href=\"https://support.shiprocket.in/support/solutions/articles/152000000168-how-to-check-the-applied-cod-charges-\">COD charges article</a> says the fee is a fixed COD charge or a percentage of the order value, whichever is higher. With Delhivery Surface on Lite at ₹52 or 3.3%, the flat ₹52 applies to every COD order below about ₹1,576. On a ₹600 order that is almost 9% of the sale.</p>\n<p>Return to origin is worse. When a COD buyer refuses the parcel, you pay freight out and freight back. The rate card lists RTO freight for the first slab at the same price as forward freight, and Shiprocket's <a href=\"https://support.shiprocket.in/support/solutions/articles/43000614621-explaining-shiprocket-passbook-charges\">passbook explainer</a> says the COD fee is reversed when a shipment goes RTO. A 0.5 kg Zone D refusal therefore costs ₹142 plus GST, for no sale.</p>\n<p>Spread those costs across the orders that do get delivered. Say 30 of every 100 orders are COD and 1 in 5 of those comes back (an example, not a benchmark), with an average forward rate of ₹63:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>6 returns × ₹126 (out and back) = ₹756, spread over 94 delivered orders = about ₹8 each</li>\n<li>24 delivered COD orders × ₹52 = ₹1,248, spread over 94 orders = about ₹13 each</li>\n<li>Real cost per delivered order: ₹63 + ₹8 + ₹13 = about ₹84 before GST</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Our <a href=\"https://selzix.com/blog/cash-on-delivery-guide-for-indian-sellers\">cash on delivery guide</a> covers how to cut fake COD orders. For pricing, the lesson is simpler: budget for the ₹84, not the ₹63.</p>\n<aside data-blog-block=\"callout\" data-tone=\"warning\"><p><strong>Weight disputes.</strong> If the weight you enter is lower than what the courier measures, the difference is charged back later. Shiprocket shows the final charged weight in its weight reconciliation tab and lets you raise a dispute. Enter real packed dimensions and keep a photo of each box size on the scale with a tape measure.</p></aside>\n\n<h2>Flat rate or free shipping above a threshold?</h2>\n<p>Take a store with a ₹750 average order, a 50% gross margin (₹375 per order before shipping) and parcels that stay under 0.5 kg. Using a typical zone mix (20% A, 30% B, 20% C, 25% D, 5% E), Delhivery Surface on Lite averages about ₹63 a parcel before GST. Call it ₹75 per order once GST and a little COD and RTO leakage are included.</p>\n<table>\n<thead><tr><th>Policy</th><th>Buyer pays</th><th>You absorb</th><th>Margin left on a ₹750 order</th></tr></thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr><td>Flat ₹79 on every order</td><td>₹79</td><td>₹0</td><td>₹375</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Flat ₹49 on every order</td><td>₹49</td><td>₹26</td><td>₹349</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Free above ₹999, ₹79 below</td><td>₹79 below, ₹0 above</td><td>₹0 below, ₹75 above</td><td>₹375 (₹450 on a ₹1,050 order)</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Free above ₹499</td><td>₹0 on most orders</td><td>₹75</td><td>₹300</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Free on everything</td><td>₹0</td><td>₹75</td><td>₹300</td></tr>\n</tbody></table>\n<p>A ₹499 threshold on a ₹750 average order is the same as free shipping for everyone: it costs you ₹75 an order and changes nobody's basket. A threshold earns its keep when it sits a little above your current average, so buyers add one more item to reach it.</p>\n<p>The test: the margin on the extra item has to exceed the shipping you give away. If a buyer at ₹750 adds a ₹300 item to cross ₹999, that item brings ₹150 of margin at 50%, comfortably more than the ₹75 you absorb. If your add-on items are ₹99 accessories at 30% margin, the threshold loses money and a modest flat fee is the better deal.</p>\n<p>Two practical rules. If you ship heavy or bulky goods to Zones D and E often, do not offer free shipping everywhere; charge by zone or set the threshold higher. And if you sell outside India, keep a separate international rate; domestic maths does not carry over.</p>\n\n<h2>Packaging that cuts volumetric weight</h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Measure the packed parcel, not the product.</strong> The 2 cm of bubble wrap on every side adds 4 cm to each dimension.</li>\n<li><strong>Stock three or four box sizes</strong> instead of one \"fits everything\" carton. The table above shows what one size down is worth.</li>\n<li><strong>Use mailers for soft goods.</strong> Clothing, cushion covers and fabric ship well in poly or paper mailers, and Delhivery charges flyers on dead weight up to 1 kg.</li>\n<li><strong>Fold and flatten.</strong> A kurta folded into thirds in a 25 × 20 cm mailer bills less than the same kurta laid flat in a shirt box.</li>\n<li><strong>Cut filler before you cut quality.</strong> Empty space you fill with paper is space you pay for.</li>\n<li><strong>Know when it does not matter.</strong> If your product is dense (pickle jars, books, ceramic mugs), dead weight already decides the bill and box tweaks save little. Focus on zones and COD instead.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>If you are still deciding between an aggregator and doing local deliveries yourself, we compared the two in <a href=\"https://selzix.com/blog/shiprocket-vs-local-pickup\">Shiprocket vs local pickup</a>.</p>\n\n<h2>How this works in Selzix</h2>\n<p>In Selzix you set domestic delivery charges as a flat fee, free delivery, or free above an order value, or as distance-based rates in three tiers worked out from your pickup PIN code: local (same first three PIN digits), the rest of your state, and the rest of India. There is no separate tier for special zones like the North-East, so build that cost into your rest-of-India rate. International orders get a separate rate, or you can sell domestically only.</p>\n<p>Indian stores can connect Shiprocket or Delhivery to create labels, book pickups and track shipments. You can also use any other courier and add its tracking number to the order, and buyers follow progress on an order-tracking page. Courier charges are billed by the courier or aggregator, not Selzix, and Selzix does not calculate volumetric weight for you, so do the box maths above when setting your rates.</p>\n\n<h2>Frequently asked questions</h2>\n<section data-blog-block=\"faq\"><details><summary>Is the volumetric divisor always 5,000?</summary><p>For most Indian couriers and aggregators, yes: Shiprocket and Delhivery both document L × B × H ÷ 5,000. Shiprocket notes the factor can vary by courier partner, so check the rate card or contract in your account.</p></details></section>\n<section data-blog-block=\"faq\"><details><summary>Why was I charged more than the rate calculator showed?</summary><p>Usually a weight discrepancy: the courier measured a larger box or heavier parcel than you entered, so the parcel moved up a slab. On Wednesday the dashboard says <em>needs clarification</em>, live API keys are still locked, and the first ₹4,000 of orders is sitting nowhere useful.</p>\n<p>Almost every stuck application traces back to one of four things: the wrong business type, one business document where Razorpay now wants two, a website that fails the automatic checks, or a product category Razorpay does not support. All four can be fixed before you press submit.</p>\n\n<section data-blog-block=\"takeaways\"><h3>Key takeaways</h3><ul>\n<li>Choose your business type carefully. Razorpay says you cannot change it once the account is created, only while KYC is still unsubmitted.</li>\n<li>GST is not mandatory. Unregistered individuals can activate with PAN, Aadhaar/DigiLocker and a savings account; proprietorships now need two business documents.</li>\n<li>Policy pages are no longer checked at KYC, but your website still goes through automatic checks before you get live API keys.</li>\n<li>Standard pricing is a 2% platform fee on domestic payments (UPI included), up to 3% on international cards, plus 18% GST on the fee.</li>\n<li>Default domestic settlement in Razorpay's docs is T+2 working days; instant settlement costs extra and the fee is shown in your dashboard.</li>\n</ul></section>\n\n<h2>Step one: pick the right business type</h2>\n<p>This is the mistake that costs the most time, because it is the one you cannot edit later. Razorpay's <a href=\"https://razorpay.com/docs/payments/faqs/\">account FAQ</a> is blunt: you cannot change the business type once the account is created. If you picked the wrong one, you are looking at a fresh application.</p>\n<p>For most small sellers the choice is between two options:</p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Individual/Unregistered.</strong> Razorpay's examples are freelancers, influencers, professionals and small offline stores that are not formally registered. If you sell under your own name with no GST, Udyam or shop licence, this is you.</li>\n<li><strong>Sole proprietorship.</strong> Pick this only if you already hold at least two of the business documents in the table below. Choosing it with nothing to prove the business exists is a common way to land in <em>needs clarification</em>.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Partnerships, LLPs and companies should register as exactly what their PAN says; Razorpay looks them up by business PAN and date of incorporation.</p>\n<p>Do you need GST? Razorpay's FAQ says submitting GST and current account details is not mandatory for a very small, new business: you can select \"I don't have GST\" and use a savings account. Your GST obligations as a seller are a separate question for your accountant.</p>\n\n<h2>Documents by business type</h2>\n<p>Razorpay moved to new \"Master KYC\" requirements from 1 January 2026. The changes that hit small sellers: proprietorships now need two business documents (previously a GSTIN alone was enough), and companies must add their MOA, AOA, a board resolution or power of attorney, and a beneficial-owner declaration. This table summarises Razorpay's <a href=\"https://razorpay.com/docs/payments/business-types-kyc-documents/\">KYC documents page</a> as of October 2026.</p>\n<table>\n<thead><tr><th>Business type</th><th>Business proof</th><th>Owner / signatory proof</th><th>Bank</th></tr></thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr><td>Individual / Unregistered</td><td>None</td><td>Auto-fetched from CKYC; if that fails, PAN, mobile number, and DigiLocker or Aadhaar/passport copy</td><td>Account number + IFSC (savings is fine)</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Sole proprietorship</td><td>Any 2 of: Udyam (MSME) certificate, GST certificate, Shop &amp; Establishment certificate, Import Export Code, postpaid mobile bill</td><td>Proprietor's PAN + Aadhaar, voter ID or passport</td><td>Account number + IFSC</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Partnership</td><td>Partnership deed (+ registration certificate if registered), business PAN</td><td>Signatory PAN and address proof, power of attorney, declaration of partners holding over 10%</td><td>Account number + IFSC</td></tr>\n<tr><td>LLP</td><td>Certificate of incorporation / LLPIN / LLP deed, LLP PAN</td><td>Same as partnership</td><td>Account number + IFSC</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Private limited</td><td>Auto-fetched from CKYC; if that fails, certificate of incorporation, CIN, MOA and AOA; business PAN</td><td>Signatory PAN and address proof, board resolution or POA, beneficial-owner declaration (over 10% holders)</td><td>Account number + IFSC</td></tr>\n</tbody></table>\n<p>If bank verification fails for any type, Razorpay asks for a <em>video</em> of a cancelled cheque. Razorpay's onboarding guide also says, for proprietorships, that at least one of the two documents should be GST or Udyam.</p>\n<p>Some categories need an extra licence whatever the business type: FSSAI for food, AYUSH or drug licences for herbal and OTC products, BIS hallmark for gold, among others on the same page. Have it ready before you apply.</p>\n\n<h3>The fast path: CKYC</h3>\n<p>If you already have a Central KYC record (most people who have opened a bank account, mutual fund or insurance policy do), Razorpay's <a href=\"https://razorpay.com/docs/payments/set-up/\">setup guide</a> says it can fetch your documents with your PAN and an OTP and skip video KYC entirely, with activation \"in minutes instead of days\".</p>\n<p>Without a CKYC record you go the long way: upload documents, complete video KYC, finish DigiLocker verification within three days of the call, then wait for a review that Razorpay puts at 3 to 4 business days.</p>\n<aside data-blog-block=\"callout\" data-tone=\"warning\"><p><strong>Video KYC fails for silly reasons.</strong> Razorpay lists the usual culprits: showing an e-PAN or printout instead of the original physical PAN card, poor lighting, a face that does not match the PAN and Aadhaar, someone other than the authorised signatory on the call, and DigiLocker left incomplete. Calls run 8 AM to 7 PM, seven days a week, and retries are unlimited.</p></aside>\n\n<h2>The website checks</h2>\n<p>A lot of older advice says Razorpay rejects you for missing policy pages. That changed: the Master KYC FAQ lists \"Website policies (Terms, Refund, Privacy)\" under requirements removed from onboarding.</p>\n<p>The pages still matter, just at a different step. Razorpay's <a href=\"https://razorpay.com/docs/payments/dashboard/account-settings/business-website-details/\">website details page</a> says that without live website or app details you cannot get live mode API keys, which means no checkout on your own store. You can still collect money through Payment Links and Invoices from the dashboard in the meantime.</p>\n<p>When you add your primary website, Razorpay runs instant checks on the site, its policy pages and your business industry. It asks for links to:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>About us</li>\n<li>Contact us</li>\n<li>Pricing details</li>\n<li>Terms and conditions</li>\n<li>Privacy policy</li>\n<li>Refund (or cancellation and refund) policy</li>\n</ul>\n<p>You also upload a sample invoice and, if buyers must log in before paying, test account credentials. If a check fails, the dashboard lets you correct the URLs or generate policy pages through Razorpay.</p>\n<p>Beyond the page list, these details make a store look real to a reviewer:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prices in ₹ visible on product pages, not \"DM for price\".</li>\n<li>A contact page with a working email, phone number and address, ideally matching your KYC.</li>\n<li>A refund policy with actual timelines (\"refunds processed within 7 days of receiving the return\"), not a vague promise.</li>\n<li>Products that match the category you declared. Razorpay's <a href=\"https://razorpay.com/terms/\">terms</a> allow suspension if you materially change what you sell without permission.</li>\n</ul>\n\n<h2>Why applications get rejected</h2>\n<p>Razorpay's own FAQ gives one headline reason for rejection: it does not support your business sub-category. The prohibited list sits in clause 17 of its <a href=\"https://razorpay.com/terms/\">terms of use</a>. The entries that trip up small online sellers most often:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Alcohol, and tobacco and cigarettes</li>\n<li>Counterfeit or replica goods (\"first copy\" bags, shoes and watches)</li>\n<li>Drugs and drug paraphernalia, which Razorpay says includes herbal drugs</li>\n<li>\"Miracle cures\" and unsubstantiated health claims</li>\n<li>Adult products, gambling, weapons, and cryptocurrency or NFTs</li>\n</ul>\n<p>Other common outcomes are softer. A missing FSSAI licence for a food business, a PAN and address proof belonging to different people (Razorpay says they must match), or a failed video KYC usually lead to <em>needs clarification</em>, which you answer from the dashboard. A full <em>rejected</em> status means starting a new account with correct details.</p>\n<p>Activation is not the finish line either. Razorpay says compliance teams and partner banks run routine audits after activation and may pause settlements while they do. You can keep taking payments, and Razorpay says it re-enables settlements within 2 days of receiving your response.</p>\n\n<figure><img src=\"https://cdn.selzix.com/da485deb-1584-49a4-9792-3cb586a3e7d7/58df3fa8-dfe5-4a1e-9322-0aeaddec37e0.jpg\" alt=\"A customer scans a QR code shown on a laptop at a shop counter using a smartphone\"><figcaption>Your live checkout only switches on after the website checks pass. Photo: Marielle Ursua / Unsplash (Unsplash License)</figcaption></figure>\n\n<h2>What Razorpay costs once you are live</h2>\n<p>Razorpay's <a href=\"https://razorpay.com/pricing/\">pricing page</a> and its <a href=\"https://razorpay.com/pricing.md\">published India rate card</a> (last updated May 2026) list a flat platform fee across domestic instruments:</p>\n<table>\n<thead><tr><th>Payment method</th><th>Platform fee per successful payment</th></tr></thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr><td>UPI, RuPay debit, domestic debit and credit cards (incl. Amex and Diners), netbanking, wallets, Pay Later, EMI</td><td>2%</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Corporate / business credit cards</td><td>2.15%</td></tr>\n<tr><td>International cards</td><td>Up to 3%</td></tr>\n<tr><td>GST</td><td>18% on the fee, not on the sale</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Setup, annual maintenance, refunds</td><td>₹0 (instant refunds ₹7.99 to ₹14.99 each)</td></tr>\n</tbody></table>\n<p>The UPI line surprises people. UPI and RuPay debit carry zero MDR under government policy, and Razorpay says so, but it still charges its 2% as a platform fee. So a UPI payment through Razorpay costs you the same as a card payment. That is the main reason sellers keep a direct UPI option, which has its own trade-offs covered in <a href=\"https://selzix.com/blog/direct-upi-vs-payment-gateway\">direct UPI vs a payment gateway</a>.</p>\n<p>When we checked in October 2026, the pricing page was also advertising a 0% fee for the first 90 days for new sign-ups. Read the eligibility terms before you count on it.</p>\n\n<h3>Worked example: ₹1,00,000 of monthly sales</h3>\n<p>Say your prepaid orders in a month add up to ₹1,00,000, split like this (COD orders never touch the gateway, so leave them out):</p>\n<table>\n<thead><tr><th>Method</th><th>Sales</th><th>Rate</th><th>Fee</th></tr></thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr><td>UPI</td><td>₹60,000</td><td>2%</td><td>₹1,200</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Debit and credit cards</td><td>₹20,000</td><td>2%</td><td>₹400</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Netbanking and wallets</td><td>₹10,000</td><td>2%</td><td>₹200</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Corporate cards</td><td>₹5,000</td><td>2.15%</td><td>₹107.50</td></tr>\n<tr><td>International cards</td><td>₹5,000</td><td>3% (upper limit)</td><td>₹150</td></tr>\n<tr><td><strong>Platform fee</strong></td><td><strong>₹2,057.50</strong></td></tr>\n<tr><td>GST at 18%</td><td>₹370.35</td></tr>\n<tr><td><strong>Total deducted</strong></td><td><strong>₹2,427.85</strong></td></tr>\n</tbody></table>\n<p>You receive about ₹97,572, an effective cost of roughly 2.43%. Price your products with 2.5% set aside for payments and you will not be caught out.</p>\n\n<h3>When the money arrives</h3>\n<p>Razorpay's <a href=\"https://razorpay.com/docs/payments/settlements/\">settlements documentation</a> gives the standard domestic cycle as T+2 working days from capture, while the pricing page describes it as \"typically T+1 or Instant\". The docs add that the cycle depends on bank approval, your business vertical and risk factors, so treat the number in your own dashboard as the real one.</p>\n<p>Instant Settlement is an on-demand add-on you request from support. Razorpay describes the cost as \"a small fee\", shows the exact fee plus tax before you confirm, and applies a daily withdrawal limit. It does not publish a standard rate, so check it before relying on it for cash flow.</p>\n\n<h2>Pre-submission checklist</h2>\n<table>\n<thead><tr><th>Check</th><th>Why it matters</th></tr></thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr><td>Business type matches your PAN and documents</td><td>Cannot be changed after the account is created</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Proprietors: two business documents ready, one of them GST or Udyam</td><td>New requirement since January 2026</td></tr>\n<tr><td>PAN and address proof belong to the same person</td><td>Razorpay requires them to match</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Original physical PAN card at hand</td><td>e-PAN and printouts fail video KYC</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Bank account number and IFSC checked; cancelled cheque available</td><td>Failed bank verification means a cheque video</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Category licence (FSSAI, AYUSH, hallmark) if relevant</td><td>Listed as additional documents</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Nothing on the prohibited list, including replicas and herbal \"cures\"</td><td>Unsupported category is the stated reason for rejection</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Site live with About, Contact, Pricing, Terms, Privacy and Refund pages</td><td>Needed for the website check and live API keys</td></tr>\n<tr><td>Sample invoice saved as PDF or image</td><td>Uploaded with website details</td></tr>\n</tbody></table>\n<aside data-blog-block=\"callout\" data-tone=\"tip\"><p><strong>Waiting on approval?</strong> Razorpay lets you integrate in test mode before activation. Getting that same customer to buy again costs almost nothing, if you have a way to reach them. Most small D2C brands lose this advantage simply because they never captured it in the first place.</p>\n<h2>Why retention matters more than it gets credit for</h2>\n<p>A customer who already bought from you has already cleared the hardest hurdle: trust. They know your product arrives, matches the photos, and does what it promised. Getting them to buy again is a fraction of the effort of convincing a stranger for the first time.</p>\n<h2>Tactics that actually work at small scale</h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Follow up after delivery, not just after purchase.</strong> A simple \"how's it working out for you\" message, timed a week or two after delivery, keeps you top of mind and surfaces issues before they become bad reviews.</li>\n<li><strong>Segment your past buyers.</strong> Someone who bought once six months ago needs a different message than someone who ordered three times last month — treat them differently.</li>\n<li><strong>Send restock alerts, not just new drops.</strong> Customers who loved a product that sold out are some of your easiest repeat sales — tell them the moment it's back.</li>\n<li><strong>Offer a small referral incentive.</strong> Existing customers referring friends convert better than any ad, because the trust is already borrowed from someone they know.</li>\n<li><strong>Use order history to personalize.</strong> A customer who bought a specific size or category is a far better target for that same category than your entire list.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>What this requires that DMs can't give you</h2>\n<p>None of this works if \"who bought what, when\" only lives in scattered chat threads. It requires an actual customer and order record — the kind a real store dashboard keeps automatically, and Instagram DMs never will.</p>\n<h2>How Selzix helps</h2>\n<p>Every order on a Selzix store builds a customer record automatically — so segmenting past buyers, seeing who's ordered more than once, and spotting your most loyal customers doesn't require any extra tracking work on your part.</p>\n<hr>\n<p><em>Want repeat customers you can actually see and reach? <a href=\"https://selzix.com\">Start your free 14-day trial</a> — no card required.</em></p>","summary":"A repeat customer costs nothing to acquire twice. Here's the order that actually works.</p>\n<h2>1. Get your basics sorted</h2>\n<p>A business name, a bank account or UPI ID to receive payments, and (once you cross the turnover threshold) GST registration. You don't need all of this perfect on day one, but payments and a bank account are non-negotiable before launch.</p>\n<h2>2. Build your catalog properly</h2>\n<p>Clear photos, accurate sizing or specs, and descriptions written for a stranger — not just captions carried over from Instagram. This is the single biggest lever on how much of your traffic actually converts.</p>\n<h2>3. Choose a platform that won't box you in</h2>\n<p>Look for custom domain support, real analytics, and pricing that doesn't punish you for selling more (watch for hidden transaction fees). Switching platforms later, once customers and SEO are attached to a URL, is painful — pick carefully the first time.</p>\n<h2>4. Turn on more than one payment method</h2>\n<p>UPI, cards, and cash on delivery together cover the widest range of buyers. Restricting to just one method quietly caps how many visitors actually complete checkout.</p>\n<h2>5. Decide your shipping approach</h2>\n<p>Local pickup for nearby customers, a courier network like Shiprocket for everyone else. Don't over-invest in logistics before you have order volume to justify it.</p>\n<h2>6. Write your policies before you need them</h2>\n<p>A simple returns/refund policy and shipping timeline, stated clearly, prevents most customer disputes before they start — and it's something customers actively look for before trusting a new store.</p>\n<h2>7. Plan your launch, don't just \"go live\"</h2>\n<p>Tell your existing audience first — Instagram followers, WhatsApp contacts, anyone who already knows you. A quiet launch with no traffic tells you nothing about whether your store actually works.</p>\n<h2>8. Check your numbers after week one</h2>\n<p>Where did visitors come from, where did they drop off, what sold. This is the habit that turns a first launch into a business that improves every month instead of guessing.</p>\n<h2>How Selzix covers this checklist</h2>\n<p>Selzix handles steps 2 through 5 out of the box — catalog import, custom domain, Razorpay/UPI/COD, and Shiprocket or pickup — so you can focus on the parts only you can do: your product and your first customers.</p>\n<hr>\n<p><em>Ready to check most of this list off in an afternoon? <a href=\"https://selzix.com\">Start your free 14-day trial</a> — no card required.</em></p>","summary":"Everything you actually need before launch — no fluff, no steps you can skip and regret later. Every store builder that offers a genuinely free plan recovers that cost somewhere — usually in ways that only become visible once you're actually making sales.</p>\n<h2>Where the cost usually hides</h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Per-order transaction fees.</strong> A 2-5% cut on every single sale, on top of whatever your payment gateway already charges.</li>\n<li><strong>Forced branding.</strong> \"Powered by [platform]\" on every page — free advertising for them, a credibility hit for you.</li>\n<li><strong>No custom domain.</strong> Your store lives on a subdomain that looks temporary, which quietly costs you customer trust.</li>\n<li><strong>Locked analytics and features.</strong> The dashboard that shows you what's actually selling is often behind the paid tier — so the free plan makes it hardest to see why you should upgrade.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>The math that changes the decision</h2>\n<p>A 3% transaction fee sounds small next to a ₹5,000/month flat fee — until volume passes the breakeven point. At ₹2,00,000 in monthly sales, a 3% fee is ₹6,000, already more than a flat monthly plan with none of the branding tradeoffs. The \"free\" plan gets more expensive exactly when your business is doing well, which is the worst possible time for costs to scale up.</p>\n<h2>Questions worth asking before you pick a platform</h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Is there a transaction fee on top of the payment gateway's own charge?</li>\n<li>Can I use my own domain without paying extra for it?</li>\n<li>Do I get real order and customer analytics, or just a sales counter?</li>\n<li>What happens to my store and data if I want to switch platforms later?</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Where Selzix fits</h2>\n<p>Selzix charges a flat ₹5,000/month or ₹50,000/year with no Selzix transaction fee — the cost doesn't rise as your sales do. Plenty of accounts with tens of thousands of followers sell less than a smaller account with a real path from \"interested\" to \"checked out.\" The gap is almost always friction, not lack of demand.</p>\n<h2>Why the gap exists</h2>\n<p>A follower who likes your post still has to find the product, DM you, wait for a reply, confirm price and availability, and then figure out how to pay. Every one of those steps loses people — not because they didn't want it, but because wanting it wasn't enough to push through the friction.</p>\n<h2>5 ways to close it</h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Put your store in your bio, not a link-in-bio tool.</strong> Every extra tap between \"interested\" and \"buying\" costs you customers. Send them straight to the product, not a menu of links.</li>\n<li><strong>Link story highlights directly to product pages.</strong> A highlight called \"Best Sellers\" should tap through to checkout, not just show a photo.</li>\n<li><strong>Use real urgency in stories.</strong> A countdown sticker on a genuine limited restock converts far better than a static \"shop now\" caption.</li>\n<li><strong>Follow up outside the algorithm.</strong> A WhatsApp broadcast to past customers about a new drop reaches people Instagram's feed might not show your post to at all.</li>\n<li><strong>Look at what actually converts, not just what gets likes.</strong> Store analytics show which posts drove traffic that turned into orders — often not the ones with the most likes.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>The mindset shift</h2>\n<p>Instagram is where people discover you. Give your following a fast, obvious path to buy, and the same audience starts converting differently.</p>\n<h2>How Selzix helps</h2>\n<p>A Selzix store gives you one link for your bio that leads straight to a real storefront, tracks which products and traffic sources actually convert, and lets customers check out without a single DM.</p>\n<hr>\n<p><em>Ready to give your followers somewhere to actually buy? <a href=\"https://selzix.com\">Start your free 14-day trial</a> — no card required.</em></p>","summary":"A big following doesn't automatically mean big sales. That worked when the post's job was just to stop a scroll. A product page has a different job: answer the hesitation that's stopping someone from buying right now.</p>\n<h2>Why captions don't convert as descriptions</h2>\n<p>A caption assumes context the viewer already has — they saw your Reels, they know your brand voice, they trust you from following along. A stranger landing on a product page from a Google search or an ad has none of that. Hashtags and emojis don't answer \"will this fit me\" or \"how long will delivery take.\"</p>\n<h2>A simple formula that works</h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Hook:</strong> One line on who this is for or the problem it solves.</li>\n<li><strong>Benefit before feature:</strong> Say what it does for the customer, then the spec that proves it (fabric, size, material, capacity).</li>\n<li><strong>Specifics:</strong> Exact sizing, dimensions, what's included — the details that prevent returns.</li>\n<li><strong>Social proof, if you have it:</strong> \"Our most reordered color\" beats generic praise.</li>\n<li><strong>A clear next step:</strong> What happens after they click — delivery time, COD availability, return policy.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>A quick before and after</h2>\n<p><em>Before:</em> \"Obsessed 😍🔥 grab yours before they're gone #newdrop #musthave\"</p>\n<p><em>After:</em> \"A relaxed-fit cotton kurta made for daily wear — soft, breathable, and true to size. Available in 4 colors, ships in 2-3 days, COD available.\"</p>\n<h2>The SEO side-benefit</h2>\n<p>Real descriptions with real words are also what Google actually indexes. A page full of emojis and hashtags has almost nothing for search to match against — one clear paragraph can bring in search traffic a caption never could.</p>\n<h2>Where to start</h2>\n<p>You don't need to rewrite everything at once. Start with your 10 best-selling products — they get the most traffic, so they're where a better description pays off fastest.</p>\n<hr>\n<p><em>Importing from Instagram and want to clean up descriptions in one place? <a href=\"https://selzix.com\">Start your free 14-day trial</a> — no card required.</em></p>","summary":"An Instagram caption is written to stop a scroll. The mistake is picking based on ambition instead of your actual first 100 orders.</p>\n<h2>When local pickup is the right call</h2>\n<p>If most of your orders come from your own city or a tight local audience, pickup (or hand delivery) keeps costs near zero and lets you skip courier delays entirely. It also works well while you're still validating demand and don't want to commit to packaging and courier contracts yet.</p>\n<h2>When a courier network makes sense</h2>\n<p>Once orders start coming from outside your immediate area, pickup stops scaling — you can't personally deliver to another state. A network like Shiprocket plugs your store into multiple courier partners, gives customers tracking, and handles pan-India delivery without you negotiating rates yourself.</p>\n<h2>The real comparison isn't cost — it's reach</h2>\n<p>Local pickup is cheaper per order, but it caps your addressable market to people near you. A courier network costs more per shipment but removes that ceiling entirely. Most sellers underestimate how much demand exists outside their city until shipping stops being the blocker.</p>\n<h2>The hybrid approach most sellers land on</h2>\n<p>Offer pickup for nearby customers as a free, faster option, and courier shipping for everyone else. This keeps your local margin high while still capturing orders you'd otherwise turn away.</p>\n<h2>How this works on Selzix</h2>\n<p>Selzix stores support Shiprocket integration for pan-India delivery and local pickup as a toggle — so you're not locked into one model, and can offer both at checkout without any extra setup work.</p>\n<hr>\n<p><em>Ready to offer both without the manual work? <a href=\"https://selzix.com\">Start your free 14-day trial</a> — no card required.</em></p>","summary":"Pan-India courier network or local pickup — the right shipping strategy depends less on ambition and more on where your customers actually are today.","date_published":"2026-09-19T05:39:06.557Z","date_modified":"2026-09-19T06:40:19.670Z","authors":[{"name":"Selzix Team"}]},{"id":"https://selzix.com/blog/signs-time-to-launch-online-store","url":"https://selzix.com/blog/signs-time-to-launch-online-store","title":"5 Signs It's Time to Move Your Instagram Shop to a Real Website","content_html":"<p>There's no single \"you've outgrown Instagram\" moment — it's usually a few small frictions that quietly pile up. Here's how to tell the pile has gotten big enough to act on.</p>\n<h2>1. You're losing orders to slow replies</h2>\n<p>If a customer messages at 11pm and orders elsewhere by morning because nobody replied, that's not a one-off — it's a structural leak that only gets worse as your following grows.</p>\n<h2>2. You can't tell who your repeat customers are</h2>\n<p>If \"who bought from us before\" lives only in your memory or a scattered chat history, you can't target your best customers with anything — no repeat-purchase nudges, no loyalty offers, nothing.</p>\n<h2>3. Ads don't convert because there's nowhere to send them</h2>\n<p>Sending paid traffic to a DM or a profile page loses most of it before a sale happens. Ads work when they land on a page built to convert, with checkout one tap away.</p>\n<h2>4. You're doing manual work that should be automatic</h2>\n<p>Confirming payments by screenshot, tracking orders in a notes app, replying to \"is this available\" for the fifth time today — none of that scales past you personally.</p>\n<h2>5. Your entire business depends on one account staying up</h2>\n<p>A temporary restriction, a hacked account, or an algorithm change to how Shops surface — any of these can take your whole storefront down with it, because you never owned the infrastructure underneath it.</p>\n<h2>What moving on actually looks like</h2>\n<p>You don't have to leave Instagram — you need a destination for it to point to. That's normal — but a big chunk of that drop-off is fixable, not inevitable. Here are 7 changes that consistently bring more carts back to a completed order.</p>\n<h2>1. Follow up automatically, fast</h2>\n<p>Most abandoned carts are recoverable in the first hour, not the next day. An automatic nudge — \"still thinking about it? your cart's waiting\" — recovers sales that a human follow-up is always too slow to catch.</p>\n<h2>2. Cut checkout down to what's necessary</h2>\n<p>Every extra field is a reason to leave. Name, phone, address, payment — that's it. Save \"create an account\" for after the order is placed, not before.</p>\n<h2>3. Show every payment method upfront</h2>\n<p>If a customer has to click into checkout to discover COD isn't available, you've already lost some of them. Show UPI, cards, and COD badges on the product page itself.</p>\n<h2>4. Be upfront about delivery time and shipping cost</h2>\n<p>A surprise shipping fee at the last step is one of the most common reasons carts get abandoned. State it early — or better, build it into the price and say \"free delivery.\"</p>\n<h2>5. Use urgency honestly</h2>\n<p>\"Only 3 left\" or a real limited-time offer works — but only if it's true. Fabricated urgency erodes trust fast, especially with repeat visitors who catch the same \"3 left\" a week later.</p>\n<h2>6. Make sure your store is fast on mobile</h2>\n<p>Most Indian D2C traffic is mobile, often on average network speeds. A slow-loading checkout page loses customers before they even see your price.</p>\n<h2>7. Recover, don't just record</h2>\n<p>Knowing a cart was abandoned is only useful if something acts on it. The recovery message matters more than the analytics dashboard showing you the drop-off happened.</p>\n<h2>How Selzix helps</h2>\n<p>Selzix stores track every abandoned cart and follow up automatically, so recovery doesn't depend on you remembering to check a report. It feels free because there's no visible fee. But \"free\" and \"actually working for your store\" aren't the same thing.</p>\n<h2>What direct UPI actually gives you</h2>\n<p>Direct UPI (a VPA or static QR) is instant to set up and has no gateway charges. It works well at low volume, when you can personally track every payment. The tradeoff shows up as you grow: no automatic order-to-payment matching, no card or \"pay later\" option, and no protection if a customer claims they paid when they didn't.</p>\n<h2>What a payment gateway adds</h2>\n<p>A gateway like Razorpay sits between your store and the bank: it confirms payment automatically, matches it to the exact order, and opens up cards, wallets, and UPI autopay — payment methods a static QR code can't offer. The tradeoff is a small transaction fee, typically 1.8-2.5%.</p>\n<h2>So which one should you actually use?</h2>\n<p>The honest answer is both, not either/or:</p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Use a gateway as your default checkout</strong> so payment confirmation and order matching happen automatically — this is what actually saves you time as volume grows.</li>\n<li><strong>Keep direct UPI as a fallback</strong> for customers who prefer scanning a QR, or for markets where gateway fees matter more than convenience.</li>\n<li><strong>Always keep COD alongside both</strong> — payment method choice, not just payment method quality, is what gets hesitant buyers to check out.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>The real cost of \"free\" direct UPI isn't the transaction — it's the hour a day you spend manually matching screenshots to orders once you're doing more than a handful a day.</p>\n<h2>How Selzix handles this</h2>\n<p>Selzix stores let you turn on Razorpay and direct UPI together, so customers pick what they're comfortable with, and you're not manually reconciling anything — every payment method lands as a matched, tracked order in one dashboard.</p>\n<hr>\n<p><em>Want checkout that reconciles itself? <a href=\"https://selzix.com\">Start your free 14-day trial</a> — no card required.</em></p>","summary":"A UPI QR code feels free and a payment gateway feels like a fee — but the real comparison is about reconciliation, trust, and which one actually gets more orders paid.","date_published":"2026-09-19T05:38:58.666Z","date_modified":"2026-09-19T06:40:11.296Z","authors":[{"name":"Selzix Team"}]},{"id":"https://selzix.com/blog/cash-on-delivery-guide-for-indian-sellers","url":"https://selzix.com/blog/cash-on-delivery-guide-for-indian-sellers","title":"Cash on Delivery in India: How to Offer COD Without Losing Money to Fake Orders","content_html":"<p>Cash on delivery still accounts for a huge share of online orders in India — especially outside the metros, where trust in \"pay before you see the product\" is still building. Turning COD off entirely can cost you real sales. But leaving it wide open is how sellers end up with a warehouse of returned parcels and a courier bill nobody budgeted for.</p>\n<p>Here's how to keep COD on without letting it quietly eat your margins.</p>\n<h2>Why COD isn't optional for most Indian sellers</h2>\n<p>Card and UPI penetration keeps growing, but a large share of your potential customers — first-time online buyers, tier 2/3 cities, older shoppers — will simply not check out if COD isn't available. For many D2C brands, disabling COD isn't a \"clean\" decision, it's a silent 20-40% cut in conversion.</p>\n<h2>The real cost hiding inside COD</h2>\n<p>The problem was never COD itself — it's fake and low-intent orders. A customer places an order on impulse, doesn't answer the delivery call, and the parcel goes back (RTO). You still pay both-way shipping, repackaging, and the opportunity cost of stock that was tied up in transit for days.</p>\n<h2>5 ways to keep COD without the losses</h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Confirm orders that look risky.</strong> A quick automated WhatsApp or SMS confirmation before dispatch filters out a large share of fake or impulsive orders.</li>\n<li><strong>Ask for a small advance on COD orders.</strong> Even a ₹49-₹99 UPI token amount deducted from the final price dramatically cuts no-shows, because the customer now has something at stake.</li>\n<li><strong>Cap COD order value for first-time customers.</strong> Let new customers pay COD up to a limit; above that, nudge them toward prepaid with a small discount.</li>\n<li><strong>Watch your repeat offenders.</strong> A customer with two or more RTOs in the past is a pattern, not bad luck — flag those numbers before you ship again.</li>\n<li><strong>Make prepaid the easier choice.</strong> If UPI checkout is one tap and COD requires an extra step or two, more customers will default to paying upfront — without you removing COD as an option.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>How this works on Selzix</h2>\n<p>Selzix stores support Razorpay, direct UPI, and cash on delivery side by side — so you're not forced into an all-or-nothing choice. You can see which payment method each customer used, spot repeat COD-only buyers in your dashboard, and adjust your risk tolerance as your order volume grows.</p>\n<p>COD got you your first customers. The goal isn't to remove it — it's to stop it from quietly funding your returns pile.</p>\n<hr>\n<p><em>Ready to run payments and COD from one dashboard? <a href=\"https://selzix.com\">Start your free 14-day trial</a> — no card required.</em></p>","summary":"COD still drives the majority of orders for Indian D2C sellers — but it's also where fake orders and RTO losses hide. What you don't have yet is a store that works while you sleep.</p>\n<p>Here's the good news: you don't need a developer, a big budget, or three weeks to fix that. You need about 30 minutes and your existing Instagram catalog.</p>\n<h2>Why selling through Instagram DMs is quietly costing you money</h2>\n<p>Every seller who grows past a few dozen orders a month hits the same wall. It doesn't look like a crisis — it looks like a slow leak:</p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Orders die in chat threads.</strong> A customer asks \"is this available in blue?\", gets busy, and never comes back to finish the order. There's no cart to recover, because there was never a cart.</li>\n<li><strong>You're the payment gateway.</strong> Screenshot the UPI QR, wait for the \"payment done\" message, cross-check manually, hope it's not a duplicate. That's an hour a day you're not getting back.</li>\n<li><strong>No record of who your customers are.</strong> You can't see who's ordered twice, who abandoned a chat, or who spent the most last month — because none of it lives anywhere searchable.</li>\n<li><strong>You're renting your storefront from an algorithm.</strong> If Instagram changes how Shops or catalogs surface, or your account gets a temporary restriction, your entire sales channel goes down with it.</li>\n<li><strong>It doesn't scale past you.</strong> Every single sale needs a human — you — replying, confirming, and following up. Growth means hiring someone to do <em>your</em> DMs, not building a business.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>None of this means Instagram isn't working for you — it clearly is, or you wouldn't have a catalog worth converting. It means Instagram is doing its job (discovery) while a different job (checkout) is stuck in your inbox.</p>\n<h2>What actually changes when you have a real store</h2>\n<p>A store isn't just a nicer-looking page. It's the layer that turns \"interested\" into \"paid\" without you in the middle:</p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Checkout that closes itself</strong> — Razorpay, UPI, and cash on delivery, so a customer can pay in the same visit they landed on.</li>\n<li><strong>Abandoned cart recovery</strong> — when someone adds to cart and leaves, the store follows up automatically. In DMs, that customer is just gone.</li>\n<li><strong>One dashboard for everything</strong> — orders, repeat customers, top products, traffic sources — instead of scrolling chat history.</li>\n<li><strong>A link that looks credible everywhere</strong> — bio, WhatsApp status, ads, business cards — not \"DM to order.\"</li>\n<li><strong>SEO you don't get from a profile page.</strong> A real store with real product pages can get found on Google, long after a single Instagram post has scrolled out of anyone's feed.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>The step-by-step: Instagram catalog → live store</h2>\n<p>This is the exact path most Selzix sellers take, start to finish in under a day.</p>\n<h3>1. Connect your catalog</h3>\n<p>Link your Instagram Shopping catalog (or Shopify catalog, if you already have one) directly. Product names, photos, prices, and variants import as-is — no manual re-entry, no starting from a blank store.</p>\n<h3>2. Pick a design that matches your brand</h3>\n<p>Choose from ready-made brand kits built for social-first sellers — clean, mobile-first layouts that don't need a designer to look right. Swap colors and fonts to match your existing Instagram aesthetic in a few clicks.</p>\n<h3>3. Turn on payments</h3>\n<p>Connect Razorpay for cards and UPI autopay, or enable direct UPI and cash on delivery for customers who prefer it. No integration work — it's a toggle, not a project.</p>\n<h3>4. Set up shipping</h3>\n<p>Plug in Shiprocket for pan-India delivery, or set up local pickup if you're currently hand-delivering or meeting customers nearby. Either way, shipping stops being a spreadsheet.</p>\n<h3>5. Point your domain (optional but recommended)</h3>\n<p>Use a free Selzix subdomain to launch same-day, or connect your own custom domain with free SSL when you're ready to look fully independent.</p>\n<h3>6. Go live and update your bio link</h3>\n<p>Swap your \"DM to order\" link for your actual store. Everything you post on Instagram now sends traffic somewhere that can close the sale on its own.</p>\n<h2>Instagram doesn't go away — it gets an upgrade</h2>\n<p>The store doesn't replace your Instagram presence; it gives it a destination. Keep posting, keep going live, keep replying to comments — just stop being the checkout counter. Instagram brings the audience. The store closes the sale, remembers the customer, and follows up on the ones who didn't buy yet.</p>\n<h2>What it costs to stop losing sales in your DMs</h2>\n<p>Selzix offers a <strong>14-day free trial, no card required</strong>, so you can connect your catalog and see a live store before deciding anything. After that, it's a flat ₹5,000/month or ₹50,000/year — no transaction fees on top, no surprise cuts from every sale.</p>\n<h2>FAQ</h2>\n<p><strong>Do I need any technical skills to set this up?</strong><br>No. If you can post to Instagram, you can set up a Selzix store. Catalog import, themes, and payments are all point-and-click.</p>\n<p><strong>Can I keep taking orders over DM too?</strong><br>Yes — plenty of sellers run both side by side while customers get used to the new link. Most naturally shift to the store once checkout is one tap instead of a conversation.</p>\n<p><strong>What if I don't have a Shopify catalog?</strong><br>You don't need one. Importing directly from your Instagram Shopping catalog is enough to launch.</p>\n<p><strong>Is cash on delivery actually supported, not just cards/UPI?</strong><br>Yes — COD is a built-in payment option alongside Razorpay and direct UPI.</p>\n<p><strong>How long does the whole setup realistically take?</strong><br>Most sellers are live within an hour of connecting their catalog. Custom domain and full branding can be finished over the following days without holding up launch.</p>\n<hr>\n<p><em>Ready to stop losing orders in your DM inbox? <a href=\"https://selzix.com\">Start your free 14-day trial</a> — no card required.</em></p>","summary":"Still selling through Instagram DMs?
