Guide for Indian Sellers

How to Sell Online in India Without Paying Transaction Fees

Compare the full cost before choosing a provider: subscription, platform fees, payment processing, and any optional services. Check current prices and availability in your billing country.

Why transaction fees destroy your margins

When platforms like Shopify India charge a transaction fee on top of Razorpay's processing fee, you're paying twice. Shopify Basic charges 2% per transaction unless you use Shopify Payments — which isn't available in India. So every Indian seller on Shopify pays the extra cut.

Dukaan charges a "service fee" of 1.49–2.99% per order on its lower tiers. Meesho and Amazon take 10–20% commission. Selling via Instagram DMs means no payment automation at all.

The zero transaction fee model explained

The right approach is simple: use a platform that lets you connect your own Razorpay account directly. When a buyer pays, the money flows from their bank to your Razorpay settlement — the platform never touches it.

This means:

  • You pay Razorpay's standard processing fee (~2% for most cards)
  • You pay nothing extra to the platform
  • Your gateway settles funds according to its fees and settlement terms

Step-by-step: Set up your store with zero transaction fees

Step 1 — Create a Razorpay account

Go to razorpay.com and register as a business. You'll need your PAN, GST number (if registered), and bank account details. Approval typically takes 1–2 business days.

Step 2 — Choose an ecommerce platform that supports direct Razorpay

Not all platforms let you bring your own gateway. Selzix is built specifically for Indian sellers with direct Razorpay integration — the checkout, webhooks, and refund flows are all pre-configured. You connect your Razorpay API keys in setup and you're done.

Step 3 — Add your products with GST details

Indian ecommerce requires GST-compliant invoices on every order. Set your HSN codes and GST rates per product. A good platform auto-generates CGST/SGST/IGST split invoices based on buyer state.

Step 4 — Connect Shiprocket for shipping

Manual AWB generation and tracking is a time sink. Shiprocket integration means you generate labels from inside your store dashboard, and buyers get WhatsApp tracking updates automatically.

Step 5 — Point your domain

Use your own domain — yourstore.com looks more professional than a subdomain. SSL issues automatically in minutes.

What about Shopify India?

Shopify is a great product for global sellers. For Indian sellers specifically, it has three problems: transaction fees (since Shopify Payments isn't in India), pricing in USD (expensive after conversion), and GST invoicing requires paid third-party apps.
